Redesign

There comes a time when mature landscaping needs a little lift. Even the most beautiful landscape may suffer the ravages of time: trees and bushes may become diseased and die; annuals must be changed every season and perennial beds renewed from time to time. Or the design may become outdated. Whether you wish to have your landscape taken out and a new design installed or whether you would like to replace or change only selected parts of it, a Better Landscape will work with you to create a new setting for your home.

What a difference sod makes. We install an average-sized lawn in two to three days. Sod is the preferred method for creating a lawn in Colorado because our dry climate makes it extremely difficult to grow grass seed. At A Better Landscape, we use sod purchased from reputable sod farms, good quality turf that is grown in our same climate. When properly installed and watered appropriately can withstand the harsh climate as well as the wear and tear of a busy family.

Shrubs & Trees

A Better Landscape selects the best shrubs, bushes and trees from reliable area nurseries for use in their designs. The plants are fresh and sturdy and planted using standards established for landscape contractors in our state.

Flowers

While design and the appropriate combination of and large and medium-sized plants give a landscape form and interest, it is the floral plantings that give it color and structure so that it’s attractive and pleasing to the eye. Here is an area where A Better Landscape’s expertise in flower selection is vital. Not every flowering plant will thrive in the Colorado climate. Some do well in shade and others only in sun. Some need very little water and others require frequent watering. Knowing what to plant and where and how to combine colors and watering needs are essential to a beautiful landscape and are part of the package of experience and care A Better Landscape’s employees bring to every job.

Water Conservation in Landscapes

The Denver metropolitan area is situated in a high plain along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Its annual precipitation averages 12 to 15 inches per year under normal conditions. Growing plants under these conditions takes skill and knowledge and the several years of drought in the last decade have mandated a more conservative and efficient use of outdoor watering. Nevertheless, it is possible to have an attractive landscape, save water and spend less time and care on gardening. The use of plants native to Colorado and to other semi-arid regions in the world can provide color and texture to any landscape. Because they thrive in this climate, they require less care than some other plants.

Play Areas

Make your children’s swing set and outdoor play area the envy of theI block. We recommend using sand that’s both soft to land on and fun to play with. We also use pea gravel and bark on playgrounds when appropriate.

Maintenance

We mow, trim and edge plus haul away the clippings. You’ll know when to expect our crew onsite, because we adhere to a regular mowing schedule. If heavy rain prohibits mowing on your regular day, we show up the next day or as soon as the rains let up. If your yard is secured, you can trust our Crew Supervisors with your access code or key. Once A Better Landscape is your yard maintenance contractor, you won’t have to give your lawn a second thought except to enjoy it.

Fertilization & Weed Prevention

Under our maintenance program, we fertilize your lawn three times a year. The spring application features a pre-emergent weed suppressant which keeps any weeds that may sprout from spreading and multiplying. The summer application is a weed and feed compound that promotes growth and controls weeks. The winter feeding enhances root development and produces green, healthy grass next season.

The best weed prevention is fertilization on a regular schedule year-round. If your yard is compromised by weeds, we’ll apply specific fertilizers to ensure that your grass gets healthy and outpaces the growth of any disturbing weeds.

Spring & Fall Clean-up

We prepare your yard for the spring by raking dead grass and leaves and aerating the lawn. We remove the dead branches on the ground as well as on trees and dead-head plants for healthier growth. Come winter, we rake and bag leaves, clean out dead tree limbs and cut back plantings in preparation for harsher weather.

Hardscaping

The most attractive complement to a lush, green lawn is carefully selected and professionally installed rock or stone. We can transport any amount of rock your job requires. We underlay the area with weed suppressing fabric and then apply the rock evenly at a depth that won’t wear thin in areas. We can furnish rock in a variety of colors and sizes to be used alone or in combination to create an attractive design.

Retaining Walls

We can install decorative retaining walls to help control soil erosion on slopes. We also create terraced lawns and gardens on steep slopes or as raised flower beds.

Flagstone & Pavers

In many municipalities, maintenance of the sidewalk is the homeowner’s responsibility. Prevent tripping and injury by replacing sidewalk sections that have been displaced by tree roots. Enhance your walkways or patio by laying flagstone pavers or a combination of crushed rock and never worry about cracked mortar again. Flagstone comes in a variety of sizes and colors. A Better Landscape prepares the ground properly so as to prevent settling and underlay the pavers with a weed suppressing fabric to ensure that weeds won’t grow between the pavers.

Sprinkler Systems

A sprinkler system can save hours of tedious labor dragging heavy hoses and manually timing the watering. A properly installed sprinkler system does all the work for you automatically and adds value to your home.

Typically we install Rainbird, Hunter and Toro irrigation systems. These top-rated makers produce better-built products that are proven to be durable and stand up to seasonal weather changes.

Installation & Repair

How your system is installed will affect how it works.

A Better Landscape meets all industry standards in installing sprinkler systems. We bury the line 8 to 12 inches deep making it less susceptible to freezing in the winter. A proper backflow prevention system is essential in the proper installation of a sprinkler system so that contaminated water does not back up into your water system.

We are a licensed contractor and comply with all licensing and permit requirements in the metro area cities we serve.

We also repair sprinkler systems - all brands. We upgrade sprinkler systems for clients, modifying them to increase effectiveness. We can add zones to increase watering efficiency. We service our sprinkler systems, turning them on the spring and blowing them out at the end of the season.

If you’re in the market to buy a home that has a sprinkler system and the homeowner can’t produce permits from a licensed installer, you’ll want to have that system checked out before buying so that you know you’re getting. A Better Landscape inspects such systems, repairs them and gets them operating properly again.

Better yet, if our crews damage a sprinkler head while mowing, we fix it for free. Un-asked.

Snow Removal

When we tell people we’re in the landscape business, they often ask us, “Where do you spend your winters?”

Plain and simply, when winter blows into town, we get out the snow plows. We have plows and multiple crews who hand-shovel as well. We perform contract snow removal for residential, multi-unit residential buildings, retail and commercial businesses and shopping centers.

Ask us for a quote before the next snow flies.
